- Even a surge protector will not stop a direct lightning hit from killing your computer- unplug the power cord from the back or invest in a UPS system
- Always unplug the phone line from the back of your computer before a storm
- Put your computer on a regular maintenance schedule. Scandisk, defrag, check for spyware, run your antivirus program weekly.
Common Problems
Outlook Express
- Getting disconnected after checking mail? Click on tools, options, connections. Uncheck "Hang up after send and receive"
- Can't open attachments? - Click on tools, options, security tab. Take the check marks off of corresponding statements relating to opening attachments
Internet Explorer
- Can't get internet explorer to dial your connection? Click on tools, then internet options, now the connections tab. Put the dot next to "Always dial my default connection"
- Does your home page keep changing? Do you keep getting popup ads? That means you have spyware. Download and install Adaware se personal.
- Can't play certain games on msn or yahoo? You probably need java software.
