Bryans Auto Supply Press Release: 09/20/00  

    It was a beautiful day in downtown Eastland at the 2000 14th Annual Bryans "Old Rip" Car Show and Old Rip Festival. It was slightly warm, but a great Car Show day. Even though the numbers were a little lower than normal, the quality of entrants far exceeded those in the past. Entrants from right here in Eastland to Ft Worth, Abilene, and DeLeon, packed the streets for the annual Parts Plus co-sponsored event.

The Bryans Special Attraction this year was definitely a crowd pleaser, being the record setting -9X NHRA Winston Champ, John Force Castrol GTX Ford Funny Car. This car was not a mach up, it was the actual 7000hp record setting funny car, which was retired and became a show car after the record-breaking event. The Force Race Teams, Glen Cain, was on hand to answer questions and tell about the car - and the fans couldn’t have been better blessed. Cain handed out posters and greeted everyone as if they were the celebrity. Our thanks go out to Castrol, John Force and certainly Glen Cain for their support in this year's event.

Continental Battery Company was on hand again to cook Burgers for all the entrants and their wives.

Local pageant entrant Cassandra Smith presented the Car Show awards. Cassandra recently participated in Dallas and won 3 trophies, one being State Finalist. Bryans, in part, sponsored Cassandra in this event. We extend our thanks for her help at the Car Show and wish her the best in her future endeavors.

There were many more beautiful cars, trucks, cycles, race bikes and racecars.  We thank all the entrants, fans and co-sponsors. We extend a Special Thanks to Coats Furniture and First Baptist Church for the continued use of their parking facilities, Eastland Telegram for their great event coverage, and Edwards Funeral Home for the event electricity.
